Moving.....stuff....more stuff...

Moving would be so much easier if we didn’t have a bunch of stuff. I sold quite a bit of stuff and was feeling very accomplished. Yeah, um, we still have a bunch of stuff. And that’s just it. Stuff. More stuff. How do we have so much stuff? And Why? Do we really need all of this? It’s mind boggling how much one person can acquire. It really puts it into perspective when you have to pack up all of it and rent a moving truck to put it all in. You spend hours packing, hours loading, more hours unloading, and then more hours unpacking. I have to haul all of my belongings across the state to another state. This is all of the baggage I come with. We become so attached to our belongings. Think about some of the things in your house that are important to you. Are they expensive? Did they come from a loved one? Now think about some things that are maybe not so important in your house. How did it get there? Do you need to just get rid of it? I think it’s important to have things that are meaningful to us. Whether we like it or not, they bring us joy, love, security, and maintain our mental well being. However, when we become over burdened with stuff, it can suppress our mental well being without even realizing it. It can suffocate us in our own home; a place that is supposed to be comforting. We need to be released from all of our physical stuff. Why does it feel so liberating to get rid of stuff? I really don’t know. It could be because decluttering leads to less objects we have to take care of, clean, move, look at, etc. It’s a way to lighten our load and when we lighten our load we feel….well, lighter, more free. When I was packing up my stuff for our big move I came up with the motto, “Move with intention.” Everything I moved had to have intention behind it. I knew the house layout that we were moving into, so I knew what I needed and what I didn’t need. I looked at everything and decided if it didn’t have a spot in our new home or didn’t have a purpose, it wasn’t going. I think that helped a lot because I was able to be honest with myself and realize a lot of my stuff was just a bunch of nonsense. It also helped the unpacking process because I would pull something out of a box and know exactly where it was going to go. If you had to move tomorrow, what would go and what would stay? What do you need to be released of in your home?

And for now,

Xoxo
