Pallets.

I have always loved a good deal. I mean, don’t we all? It’s the thrill of finding something for a great price, whether you will actually use it or not is besides the point. I also live and breathe retail. It’s interesting, I am not materialistic, but I do love stuff! I also love to give stuff! All the stuff. Anyone who knows me, would describe me as a “gifty” person. That is me to the core. It’s my love language to pick out things that I know someone will enjoy or need and give them to them. In my family, (and other places) I am known for giving the best gifts. It’s truly a talent that I have and I love to share that with others. Ok, enough about bragging about how awesome I am. I wanted to give you that little back story because the way we are always drives the direction we are going. After moving to Wisconsin, I recently discovered a new way of selling merchandise. Many people in the surrounding areas were doing this thing called “pallets.” I had briefly heard of this concept before, in fact, when we lived in MN we actually lived right next to a store that did this. Basically what it is, is when stores have something that didn’t sell well on clearance, or they bought too much to begin with, or customer returns, or seasonal items that they no longer want to keep around, they need to get rid of it. They package it up in random boxes and it goes on a pallet. They then sell these to companies. These companies have brokers who work with other sellers. These sellers then buy truckloads of them. It requires contracts and certain certifications, regulations, etc. There is a lot that goes into it. Then, those sellers get their truckload, unload them all on their front yard, or warehouse, where ever they are, and sell to people like you and me. You don’t need to be a legal business to buy a pallet, however, you are clearly buying with the intent of reselling and Uncle Sam is going to eventually find you. Each individual pallet can cost anywhere from $300 -$1200 a piece. It all depends on the retail store brand, what “type” of pallet it is, etc. If you buy from a reputable seller, they will do their best to get you good pricing and like for me personally, the person I buy from, doesn’t upcharge a ton, meaning she really isn’t making a bunch of money off me. You really have to be careful, do your research and establish a good relationship with the people you are buying pallets from. There are plenty of people out there who charge way more than they should and the more you pay for a pallet, the less money you will be able to make off of it. The other thing you need to be mindful of is the integrity of the people you buy from. If they have a store, or even if their broker owns a store, they could easily be “cherry picking” items off for their own personal use and then rewrapping pallets. Also, you really need to know the source of where they are obtaining pallets from. This is a ton of information and I don’t want to overload you, so I am going to split this into 2 posts. The next post, I am going to tell you about my personal journey with it all! (The good stuff)
And for now,
Xoxo
